So…How did this become my passion?
Well, I love to write. I remember writing my first poem about Martin Luther King when I was in the second grade. My favorite book growing up was A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L’Engle. Exploring fantastic worlds was a welcome escape from the festering dysfunction and abuse in my own home.
Unfortunately, the tough times didn’t stop as I entered adulthood. At the young age of 20, I found myself in a homeless shelter with an infant in tow. Abandoned by my, then, husband and unable to rely on my family, I was at rock bottom. On a cot no wider than my underfed body, with my one year old daughter sleeping on my chest, I could no longer escape the pain. Stories and fantastical tales could no longer whisk me away into other worlds and make me forget my cares.
So, I picked up the Bible.
Fast forward, several years and I found myself preaching, teaching and writing. I also married the most wonderful woman I have ever met in my life! She makes my heart twirl (and I ain’t the twirling type). Together we have four kids (five if you count the dog.)
I started this blog for you. Yup, you.
I want you to know that you matter. You are not one drop in the ocean; you are the entire ocean in one drop (Rumi). Even though we may not have met, we are tied together as people, as humans. There is a universality in our experiences that binds us together and makes you infinitely valuable to me.
So, I write each blog with you in mind. I share my insights, my struggles, my epiphanies, as well as my failures so that we can connect and through that connection, learn to live our lives…out loud.
